About the Blog

What is the negative message that the Fashion Industry has associated with body image?

The focus that I want to concentrate on is changing the negative message that the Fashion Industry has associated with body image. My goal is to 1) inform people about the body image fashion portrays 2) change an individual’s outlook on their body image 3) create a blog to give tips, ways, or advice on how to build up every female’s (any age) body image, ways to dress matching your body type to help build the confidence by not just words, but by how they dress 4) send the message that all bodies are beautiful even if fashion, media, etc. thinks another way.
I chose this idea because I am pursing a career in the fashion world, and I am aware that in a few years, I will have an impact in fashion, whether that is big or small. I feel that fashion has sent negative messages about body image to females of all ages. As a young woman, I am growing up in a culture where fashion has a great influence on the society by the means of judging which bodies are beautiful or which bodies are unattractive. It is important to me that I make an effort to send another message that body image is more than just about size. I want to share my ideas to make my mark in the Fashion Industry.
This topic would be successful because I am speaking on a topic that I have experience with, and the public could relate to me. I am a young female who isn’t a size zero, or even a 6. I read vogue and seventeen like many people who are influenced by fashion and told what is “in” or what is “beautiful”.  Media helps spread this concept, but there is also the form of media called e-books, which has additional references to people who want to help change the negative messages. It would be effective selling e-Books because this topic is popular since people are highly concerned about how they look, and since 60% of people are dissatisfied and ashamed of their bodies, I believe that it would bring in a broad target market of people wanting to improve their perception of their body and how to move in a direction that will make them more confident, even if it is by hearing other people’s support, or changing the way they dress. Everyone is concerned about looking their best, when really; it just takes confidence, a different outlook, and even a few tips to build on both.

Ways you can help:

  • Inform people about the body image fashion portrays
  • Change an individual’s outlook on their body image
  • Create blog to give tips, ways, or advice on how to build up every female’s (any age) body image, ways to dress matching your body type to help build the confidence by not just words, but by how they dress
  • Send the message that all bodies are beautiful even if fashion, media, etc. thinks another way

victoria’s secret model’s TED talk about body image

30 Jan

“Image is Powerful, Image is Superficial.”

Victoria’s Secret model, Cameron Russell tells the public the real view of herself perceived about her in the model-fashion world on TED talk.
It becomes a reality check that the most beautiful girls and women in the world are insecure with their bodies too, even more so than maybe you and me.
Learn to love your body, learn to make your body happy. Because even if your desired body is to be 5’7, and weigh 130 lbs, it doesn’t mean it will make you any happier than you could be today!

xoxo,

Chels

What is “average”?

28 Jan

“The average American woman is 5’4” tall and weighs 140 pounds. The average American model is 5’11” tall and weighs 117 pounds.”
